Wide variety: sensors for industry, laboratories and research

The term ‘sensor’ refers to all components that measure physical or chemical properties. The range is huge: sensors are used to measure temperature, speed and air pressure. With sensor technology, you can precisely determine the distance to an object, measure humidity or determine the current strength in a cable.

Overview of sensors: these variants are available

High-quality sensor technology is characterised by accuracy and durability: the sensors perform their task precisely over long periods of time and interact smoothly with the other components in the technical environment.
But which sensor is suitable for your particular project? The first step is to familiarise yourself with the wide range of basic sensor types, which we will briefly introduce to you in the following sections. Then select the sensor that meets your requirements in the respective category. For example, pay attention to the range of measurable values that can be recorded, the accuracy of the measurement and the compatibility with Arduino and Co. Also check whether it is an analogue or digital sensor.

Measuring temperature, air pressure and CO2 levels

Whether in industry, research or building automation – reliable sensors for temperature, air pressure and CO2 levels enable precise recording of important environmental parameters, thus ensuring safety, efficiency and comfort. In our range, you will find high-performance sensors that use innovative measurement techniques to deliver accurate and stable values.

Temperature sensors

The temperature sensor is one of the best-known sensors. This electrical component measures, for example, the temperature in an electric motor or the ambient temperature of a device. Heat sensors also provide valuable services in the context of overheating protection. They indicate when a specified temperature level has been reached so that other components can immediately switch off the device. Temperature sensors are based on a variety of measuring methods; among other things, they detect changes in resistance or voltage.

Air pressure sensors

With an air pressure sensor, on the other hand, you can measure air pressure. If you are measuring static air pressure, use a barometer. Manometers are available in a variety of forms for measuring artificially generated air pressure. Here in the shop, you can purchase functional barometers that you can use to determine the static air pressure in the Earth's atmosphere. These sensors can be found, for example, in weather stations and high-quality wristwatches.

CO2 sensors

Another important environmental value is the CO2 content in the air. You can measure the current concentration of carbon dioxide with a CO2 sensor. Carbon dioxide detectors measure this content using infrared light. In this process, one side of the sensor emits light of a certain wavelength, while the other side measures the amount of incoming light. This information is used to calculate the CO2 level. These CO2 sensors enable a number of valuable functions, such as targeted ventilation of buildings.

Distance, speed and more: these sensors are suitable

for a wide range of applications. You can also find a wide range of sensor types in the area of distance, speed and proximity. This diverse area can be divided into three categories.

IMU sensors

These are inertial measurement units, also known as inertial sensors. There are two variants: acceleration and rotation rate sensors. In practice, IMU sensors have proven themselves in numerous environments, with prominent examples including vehicles, aircraft, rockets and ships. Engineers also rely on this sensor technology in robotics and image stabilisation.

LiDAR sensors

This sensor technology is based on laser beams that enable sensors to perform three-dimensional laser scanning. LiDAR cameras play a central role in autonomous driving.

Distance and proximity sensors

This category includes various sensors such as infrared and ultrasonic sensors, as well as ToF and the LiDAR sensors just mentioned. Proximity sensors, which emit a signal when a minimum distance is not reached, deserve a special mention. These sensors can be found in smartphones, for example: when you approach your smartphone to answer a call, the touchscreen switches off.

Water and humidity sensors, as well as current and voltage sensors.

Also discover the water and humidity sensors in the range. Water sensors are used, among other things, as a component in home automation: as soon as they come into contact with water, they trigger an alarm signal. They can be used to prevent significant water damage. A special form is the soil moisture sensor, which provides valuable services in the context of automatic irrigation systems. It measures the soil moisture and thus provides values for watering the soil as needed.
A current sensor or a voltage sensor has a completely different function. These sensors precisely measure the current strength or the voltage. They are an integral component of numerous industrial controllers, electronic measuring devices and power supply systems!

Pick the right sensor for your project

Whether you are looking for a temperature sensor or a current sensor, you will find the perfect solution for your requirements here in our shop. Find out more about the technical details on the individual product pages or contact us directly and get personalised advice from our experts.
