Functionality of an ultrasonic sensor
Ultrasonic sensors are based on the measurement of sound waves with a frequency above the human hearing range. These in turn are based on three physical principles: Time of Flight, Doppler Effect, and Attenuation of Sound Waves. Ultrasonic sensors are non-intrusive in that they do not require physical contact with their target and can detect certain clear or shiny targets that are hidden from other sensors because of visibility. On the other hand, ultrasonic sensor measurements are very sensitive to the temperature and angle of the target.
