Bluetooth is a radio technology standard for the exchange of data over short distances (using short-wave UHF radio waves in the ISM band from 2.4 to 2.485 GHz) between stationary and mobile devices and for setting up personal area networks (PANs). Invented in 1994 by telecommunications provider Ericsson, it was originally designed as a wireless alternative to RS-232 data cables.
