Description
The RAK7590 Field Tester Pad is a professional LoRaWAN field measurement device for validating network coverage during commissioning, acceptance testing, and troubleshooting.
Unlike simple signal meters, the Field Tester Pad tests both uplink and downlink. This is crucial because Class-A end devices only receive within short RX windows, and downlink issues (e.g., missing ACKs, OTAA joins, ADR commands) are not detected by uplink-only tests. Standardized test sessions provide reproducible results for acceptance protocols and audits, directly on the device and without a laptop.
Important note on system requirements:
The full range of functions (bidirectional evaluation, packet loss statistics, heatmaps, PDF/CSV export) requires the Field Test Data Processor Extension. This extension runs exclusively on RAK WisGate Edge Gateways with WisGateOS 2. Without a WisGate Edge Gateway with the extension installed, the device operates exclusively in simplified LinkCheck mode with severely limited evaluation.
Key features:
- Bidirectional LoRaWAN analysis: RSSI, SNR, packet loss, data rate, TX power, ADR status, and downlink reception in a single measurement run.
- Standardized test sessions with 50 packets (approx. 5 minutes) for reproducible, comparable measurements across multiple locations and technicians.
- 7-inch touchscreen (1024 × 600) with live diagrams, heatmaps (outdoor), and RSSI/SNR scatter plots (indoor), directly on the device and without a laptop.
- Outdoor mapping with GNSS and indoor mode via "Custom GPS" for halls, warehouses, and buildings without satellite reception. Offline maps available for several regions.
- Export as PDF report (diagrams and map view) or CSV raw data via USB. Labeling mode for structured measurement points.
- Full functionality in conjunction with the Field Test Data Processor Extension (WisGate Edge Gateway with WisGateOS 2 required); supported Network Servers: integrated LNS, TTN/TTI, ChirpStack, AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN. LinkCheck mode for simple tests without the extension.
- Hardware: Raspberry Pi CM4-based, 20,000 mAh battery (over 11 h runtime), USB-C, Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet, BLE, external SMA LoRa antenna.
- LoRaWAN 1.0.3, OTAA, Class A. This variant supports EU868
