The LED provides visual feedback to the user or optical synchronization with third-party devices. A common need when working with biosignals is the synchronization of recorded data with external recording devices (e.g., a video camera). When the LED sensor is attached to a camera lens, it can be used to insert consistent markers into the recording, thus providing a synchronization source.
The LED sensor can also be useful for optical synchronization with third-party devices (provided the third-party device has a photodetector), especially in applications where electrical decoupling between the devices is important.
