Biosignalsplux Blood Volume Pulse (BVP) Finger Sensor

The Biosignalsplux Blood Volume Pulse (BVP) sensor is an optical, non-invasive sensor that measures changes in arterial light permeability using a light emitter and receiver integrated into the finger clip housing.

When the heart pumps blood, the arteries become more opaque, allowing less light to pass from the emitter on the sensor to the receiver on the other side of the finger clip. This fluctuation in light absorption can be used to determine important cardiac monitoring parameters (e.g., heart rate), which can then be used for further analysis (e.g., heart rate variability). The clip-on design minimizes interference from external light sources, thus enabling reliable signal acquisition.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) Analysis

The Heart Rate Variability (HRV) add-on is designed to process data from electrocardiography (ECG) and blood volume pulse (BVP) sensors and extract beat-to-beat interval series, from which temporal, spectral, and non-linear HRV parameters are calculated. All algorithms were implemented according to the "Standards of Measurement, Physiological Interpretation, and Clinical Use" developed by the joint task force of the European Society of Cardiology and the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology.
