Description
The ZX Distance and Gesture Sensor (Gesture Sensor) is a non-contact sensor that is able to detect simple gestures. The sensor was developed in collaboration with XYZ Interactive, whose GestureSense® technology is used. It detects the distance of an object from the sensor up to 12 inches (30 cm, referred to as the ‘Z’ axis) and the location of the object above the sensor in a 6-inch span (15 cm, referred to as the ‘X’ axis).
You can use I2C or UART to communicate with the ZX Sensor via a microcontroller or computer.
The ZX Sensor works by using infrared (IR) beams cast from the two LEDs on the board onto an object above the sensor. The reflected light returns to the receiver in the centre of the sensor and a microcontroller on the back of the sensor interprets the data.
With this data, it is easy to determine the Z-axis and X-axis of an object. In addition to providing Z-axis and X-axis data, the ZX sensor is able to recognise simple gestures.
