A lithium-ion polymer battery (abbreviated to LiPo, LIP, Li-Poly, Lithium-Poly) is a rechargeable battery in which a polymer electrolyte is used instead of a liquid electrolyte. Highly conductive semi-solid polymers form this electrolyte. These batteries offer a higher specific energy than other lithium battery types and are used in applications where weight plays a decisive role - such as tablet computers, mobile phones or radio-controlled aircraft. In order to charge such LiPos safely and efficiently, so-called LiPo chargers are required.
